Learning & Teaching Piano via Zoom: How it Works
Before the Lesson
Contacting Us
The first step to getting started with lessons is filling out our contact form. After that, someone will contact you.
Scheduling the Trial Lesson
The next step is scheduling your trial class. It’s free and you do not need a piano for the first class. A piano app is fine. You’ll also get an email with the Zoom link. This is the link you’ll click when it’s time for the lesson.
Make Sure Zoom is Installed!
An important step that’s sometimes overlooked. Make sure zoom is installed on the device of your choice and that it’s up to date.
Home Set-Up
The best set up is to make sure the device shows the student, the piano keys, and their fingers. But it’s okay if things are not perfect!
During the Lesson
Tech Issues
The first part of the trial class is about weeding out any tech issues and glitches. Most of the time this is easy and our instructors are great at dealing with any technical challenges..
The Mini Lesson
The next part is the actual lesson. This varies based on the student’s musical experiences but it’s not much different than an in-person class. New students learn a simple song. Students with any musical experience do some sight-reading to find their level and then work on a new song and perhaps some scales.
The Student & Teacher Conversation
A very important step! No matter the age of the student, our instructors discuss practicing, goals, and any songs they may want to learn. The Parent & Teacher Conversation
And lastly, it’s time for any questions. And the instructor will also explain a little more about lessons. After the Lesson
No Pressure!
Learning to play the piano is like going on a super fun adventure! It’s not something that can be done in just one day. So we don’t pressure families to commit to lessons right away. We encourage them to discuss things more after the trial and if a child wants to continue, then great!
